But VMU is the oldest university in Modern Lithuania (the independent Republic proclaimed in 1918 and reestablished in 1990), and the 20th anniversary we’re celebrating this April 29 and 30 is just the official beginning of a two-year-long commemoration of the remarkable events that occurred in 1989 and 1990.
